Let's take a short trip to the  You Yangs Regional Park and capture an array of images: Landscapes, intimate landscapes, macro, etc

Getting there

You Yangs Regional Park is 55km southwest of the Melbourne CBD and 22km north of Geelong. Access to the Park from the Princes Freeway is clearly signposted via Lara. Park entrance is on Branch Rd.  Meet at the Turntable car park for a 10:00am start.

Facilities

There are flushing toilets at the You Yangs Visitor Centre car park. There are drop toilets at the Turntable car park. There is a general store at Lara if you want to buy food before or after.

What to bring

Appropriate clothing for the weather and good footwear. Water and snacks. Photography gear for a range of photo opportunities and depending on your personal interest. Wide angle, Zoom, macro. A tripod is not essential but worth putting in the car.

Photo opportunities

Landscapes, intimate landscapes, birds, flora, macro, natural light portraits and more.

For sweeping views of the surrounding volcanic plains and a birds eye view of the Bunjil Geoglyph, climb the 450 steps to Flinders Peak. This is a strenuous activity, take your time.

For those who want a gentler pace, wander along the Branding Yard trail near the car park.

Karen highly recommends Big Rock but unfortunately access to the Big rock car park is not available at present. You can do a 3km (1 hour return) walk from the park office/visitor centre car park to Big Rock.

Presentation: Lighting Still Life with Chrisy Dennis

Member Chrisy Dennis will let us in on her process for creating beautiful still life images through lighting.

Chrisy's presentation will show two studio lighting styles for still life or table top subjects. She has made the images using studio lighting, however speedlights will work just as well. Chrisy's subject and background are the same in both styles. The effect is achieved using different styles of lighting.
