Knox Interclub Competition

Lift Off

On Wednesday 25th July, Karen, Ray and David attended the annual Knox Monochrome Interclub Competition at Boronia. Williamstown Camera Club was one of the 7 invited Clubs to participate. The competition was divided into 4 parts – digital and print, novice and open. Each Club was permitted a maximum of 5 entries per category ie a total of 20 entries per Club. We were well represented by some lovely images from a wide range of makers. Jim Weatherill was the judge.

The standard of entries in each category – as was to be expected – very high. It must have been a difficult task to select the best. Obviously some stood out more than others and, on occasions, the selection of placegetters was subjective given the range to choose from. Jim did an excellent job in critiquing the images and provided a clear commentary regarding his choices. It is always interesting to hear an experienced person putting their views forward. The thing that Jim seemed to provide extra credits for related to imagination / creativity and seeing things differently.

Williamstown received two Highly Commended certificates. The first was to Kris Montgomery for Lift Off in the Open Prints. The second was to Lyn Hingston for Quadruptlets in the Novice Digital entries. The judge was very complimentary about the creativity displayed on each occasion. Well done to you both for a fantastic effort. Congratulations also to all members who submitted entries. All images selected for the competition will be displayed at the next Club meeting. In my totally unbiased opinion I would have placed a number of WCC entries higher up the ladder, but that’s life!!

Special thanks to the Knox Photographic Society for including us in the competition and the professionalism displayed in managing the occasion.

Upcoming

Workshop: Paper Bag Challenge

A fun activity where teams are presented with a mystery object to photograph as creatively as possible. Props, lighting, backgrounds, models etc are encouraged. Bring your camera gear, a laptop (if you have one) and any props you think might be handy.

The images will then be presented and critiqued with a winning image selected by all in attendance.

Judging: End of Year Awards & Dinner

Join us for a night of fun as we award our winners from the year. Awards are given for aggregate point winners and for the images of the year.

For the new members, we have spit roasted meats and salads brought into the Clubrooms. We have found that this works really well as it gives members a chance to chat prior to the EOY Awards presentations. You can bring along some wine/beer and some of the members bring a dessert to share.

Price for the meal is $18.00, please pay into our bank account by November 22nd, with your member number and name as reference: eg: 013Malbon
