City Photowalk

A great opportunity to capture images for our Architecture competition (due March 26). A city photowalk is a wonderful way to see how other members capture their images, to socialise and to learn from one another.

We'll meet at the steps of the State Library, our walk will likely take us around the RMIT (Storey Hall), perhaps the Old Gaol and high rise buildings in A’Beckett St (Reflections). Final route to be revealed on the day.

Judging Competition 1: Monochrome

Judging our first competition of the year. Judging nights are great, not only do you get feedback on your own image, you can see how the judge evaluates the work of others and learn valuable lessons along the way.

We'll be hosting a level 1 class for the APJA's Judging Workshop. Cost and time will be advised closer to the date.

Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne

We'll be meeting up for a photowalk around the gardens. It should provide plenty of opportunities to try your hand at different photography disciplines including landscape and macro work.

In addition to the gorgeous gardens, we'll have a professional model on hand so our members can try their hand at making portraits with a real live person.

Meet up at Gate C on Anderson Street at 2:30pm sharp.

Sport Shoot: Equestrian 3-day event at Werribee Park

This even runs from the 6th – 10th June, 2019 with different events each day. The ideal day is the cross-country where the horses run around the whole of Werribee Park jumping and running water traps. It's a great photo opportunity.

We'll meet at Williamstown Botanic Gardens and run through the settings on our cameras. The morning will be great for those looking to move off automatic. Bring along your camera and its manual. We'll have members on hand to help out.

We'll be investigating the use of our flash to both create blur AND sharp images.

Before the evening take a look at your camera manual, we'll be using "rear curtain sync", sometimes called 2nd curtain sync.

We're heading to Mt Macedon in search of Fungi. Be sure to pack your macro gear if you have it, bring along something on which to kneel or lay as we'll be getting low to the ground. Dress warm, and maybe pack some spare clothes.

We'll then stop in at a local place for some lunch.

Meet at the end of the restaurant at the meerkats at 10:30.

It's been a while since we've been to a zoo as a club and Werribee Zoo has plenty of opportunities for you to capture.

Bring your long lenses. The lions, will challenge you to take photos through the mesh in their enclosure, use a low ƒ number. If you’re going on the bus, stick to the front, the back seats often see a lot of dust.
