A packed agenda organised by Gayle, Margaret, and the team. Covers Saturday and Sunday's events as well as some extras for those arriving on the Friday.

Friday Night - 23rd August

For those who may be arriving late afternoon near sunset time, but are 
getting close to Phillip Island, you could stop at Grantville for a sunset 
shot.
Turn right into  Pier Road.

Otherwise, sunset at  San Remo at the bridge.

Dinner at the  San Remo hotel at 6.30pm. (need to check on sunset times)
Need to book a week in advance.

Saturday- 24th August

Sunrise: Cleeland Bight

  • Take the Woolami Beach Road off the Phillip Island Road. 
  • Turn left at The Cranny, and follow the road to Vista Drive. 
  • Turn right. 
  • Turn left into Cottesloe Avenue. 
  • Parking and toilets at the end.

Free time

Explore the island, or checkout one of the places of interest listed below.

1.30pm: Churchill Island

  • Entry fees are $13.20 adult/$9.20 pensioner. Group discount available. 
  • Café facilities available. 
  • The island closes at 4.30pm.

Sunset: Red Rocks Point

  • Meet there are 4.45pm.  
  • Head back towards Cowes on the Phillip Island Road, 
  • Turn left into Ventnor Road, 
  • then right into Red Rocks Road. 
  • Rock formations, suitable for a model.  Interesting colour in rocks. 

Note:  Access to the rocks by the closest carparking area is by steps  Otherwise a path leads to the beach, then walk left along to the rocks. Toilets available Dinner at the RSL. At 6.30 (again need to check on sunset times) Need to book a week in advance. Copies of menu available.

Possible astro photography session

Sunday- 25th August

Sunrise at the  Rhyll Jetty, or Newhaven Yacht Club lookout, or San Remo bridge.

In the morning after breakfast, head off to  Pyramid Rock for some long exposure photography. You will need your tripod and an ND filter, and remote shutter release or cable release for best results.

Free time to take in one or more of the following options.

Places of Interest

  • Phillip Island Wildlife park
    Entrance fee applies
  • Oswin Roberts reserve
  • Magic lands.
    Best visited at low tide to see the rock formations covered in bright green sea moss.
    This is a beautiful area rarely visited by tourists. (description taken from Photorangers)
  • Pyramid Rock.
    Boardwalk takes you to viewing platforms that allow you to view stunning coastal landscape.
  • The Nobbies.
    The western tip of Phillip Island offers spectacular views along the southern coast.
    Walk along the boardwalk to the amazing blowhole.
  • Swan Lake Trail
    Offers two viewing hides for birdwatchers. Located near the Penguin Parade.

Presentation: Image Evaluation

We will demonstrate image evaluation and then break into groups to practice. Members are welcome to bring a print with them to the meeting or send a digital image to president@williamstowncameraclub.com.au prior to the meeting.

Workshop: Paper Bag Challenge

We dive back into our Paper Bag Challenge. Members will break into teams and make images with a mystery item. Teams will be encouraged to take a variety of photos and amongst themselves select and edit their final entry... all in the space of a single meeting.

The images will then be presented and critiqued with a winning image selected by all in attendance.
