After having our outing to the Full Flight Birds of Prey cancelled last year due to Covid, 24 Members drove up to Miners Rest yesterday. We were all excited and ready to attempt to take motion images of the Birds of Prey. Graeme introduced us to about six different birds, ranging from owls to a raptor and eagle. Quite a few of us laughed at our attempts to get the birds in flight and decided we need a lot more practice.
On the 20th of March, around a dozen members set off for an outing to Point Roadknight in Anglesea. Some of the "bird nerders" in the group met a little earlier, in search of elusive Southern Emu Wrens. These wrens remained elusive, but a flock of Gang-gang Cockatoos flying overhead and some tips from a local birder made up for that!
A new year and our first competition. Thanks to everyone who entered and congratulations to those who received awards.
Our judge for the evening was Brian Basham who joined us via zoom for the judging to present his comments.
Happy New Year Everyone, our first competition entries are due at the first meeting of the year, members should have received an email from Tania, our Competition Steward. If you didn't receive an email can you please confirm we have your email address correct; shoot me an email webmaster@williamstowncameraclub.com.au
The first competition's set subject is "Street Photography" and we also have an open competition.
Gayle provided a great list of street photographers for you to check out as inspiration:
Congrats to our winners of aggregate score awards and Image of the Year awards.
Thank you to everyone who entered our awards this year. We look forward to seeing even more for you all in 2021.
Big thanks to the Judging Panel from Waverly Camera Club: Dave Summer, Vicki Moritz, and Michael Silverstein, who judged our Images of the Year.
Also, massive thanks to Tania Chalmers, our Competition Steward who has done a great job, as always, for us throughout this tumultuous year.
It has been five very long months since we have been able to have an outing together due to the COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions here in Victoria. Yesterday saw 31 Members and friends attend the outing at the State Rose Garden.
As we round out our year of isolation we also come to the last round of competition for the year. In this competition the images were about people. Set before the pandemic hit and long before we were all locked away in our homes, I'm sure finding images for this competition was a challenge for all; which is no doubt why we saw a reduction in our usual numbers of entries.
We are grateful to our members who have stuck with us throughout the past six rounds of competition, particularly those since we had to remove prints from contention due to social distancing rules. I remain ever-impressed with the work from our members and love that you continue to share it with us all.
Our judge for the evening was Rob Sloane. He was not present for the reading of his comments, we are grateful for his time in reviewing our images and providing his feedback.
The judging for our 5th competition "Open" & "Movement" was again held via Zoom. There was a time we thought we'd be back in our club rooms by now, COVID-19… it just keep coming at us. We are grateful to our members who continue to stick with us during this time and enjoy seeing your work.
Our judge, Paul Robinson sent us written commentary ahead of time and Paul's words were delivered by Tania. Paul was a very generous judge, offering extensive critique and citing relevant references for other photographers our makers may choose to investigate.
Our Happy Hour meetings started as a way for us to remain in contact during the COVID lockdown, thanks to many awesome members we've been treated to a few presentations from our fellow members who are willing to share their learned skills with the rest of us.
This week, David Male shared his journey in Focus Stacking his macro photographs, he has also provided us with detailed notes about his process.
Neil will be doing a presentation for us on making a photo books. Always a great way to keep your images and share them with friends and family.
